“The only constant is change.”

Dr Melanie Zammit Burg is an Electrophysiologist, a Cardiologist who specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm abnormalities. She performs catheter ablation procedures and implants cardiac devices.

Dr Zammit Burg obtained her Doctor of Medicine and Surgery (MD) from the University of Malta in 2007 and underwent her postgraduate medical training in Malta and the United Kingdom (Oxford Deanery and London Deanery). She obtained her Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in Cardiology in 2018, after which she pursued her training in electrophysiology and devices. In 2018, she obtained a Masters degree by research in geno-phenotypic characterisation of Brugada Syndrome in Maltese patients. She was awarded the Miriam Burnett Scholarship for a clinical fellowship in Advanced Electrophysiology and Devices at the University Health Network Toronto General Hospital Peter Munk Cardiac Centre (2021-2023), where she served as Chief Fellow. She was awarded full European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) certification in Electrophysiology (2023) and Cardiac Pacing (2023).

She is an active member of the European Heart Rhythm Association, where she was previously the EHRA Young Electrophysiologists National Ambassador for Malta (2014-2021) and is now a member of the EHRA Certification Committee Board. She is also a member of the US Heart Rhythm Society, where she is a member of the Core Concepts Committee. She is a graduate (2022) of the HRS Growth and Leadership for Women in Electrophysiology (GLOWE) program – a cause that is close to her heart as only 10% of Electrophysiologists worldwide are women.

She is married to James (2013), a professional classical violinist. Together, they enjoy and find peace in nature and in travelling.
