June at Women for Women

June at Women for Women

Welcome to this month's stories from Women for Women.

Every month, our community shows up in big and small ways, through quiet mornings shared over coffee, milestones reached at Thrifty Baby, new faces joining our team, and stories of resilience that remind us why this work matters.

This month, we’re sharing all of it: a new space for connection, a record-breaking month at the Hub, a story of courage that will stay with you, and a celebration coming up that we can’t wait to share.

Thank you for being part of this community. We hope these stories move you the way they’ve moved us.

Morning Sisters Circle - A Weekly Space Just for You

WFW Morning Sisters Circle

Life can get loud, and sometimes, in the middle of all of it, the quietest kind of loneliness can creep in – the kind that doesn’t always have a name but feels very real.

The Morning Sisters Circle was created with exactly that in mind.

Every Friday morning from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, we open our doors at the Women for Women Community Hub for a small, relaxed breakfast gathering. In this space, women can come as they are and connect with others.

You’ll be welcomed in with coffee and a light breakfast. Some weeks, you might leave having had a deep conversation. Other weeks, you might just enjoy a quiet coffee surrounded by other women doing the same.

The details:

This is a free initiative, and spaces are intentionally kept small to maintain a warm, supportive environment. If this sounds like something you need, or something you know another woman might need, we’d love to have you.

May at Thrifty Baby: Record Growth, Full Hearts & A Growing Community

Storytelling Time - Twice the Magic

In May, we held two Storytelling Time sessions, welcoming 15 mums, 1 dad, and 1 grandmother through our doors. Beyond the joy of watching families connect over stories and little ones, these events provided a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together around something simple and meaningful.

Generous Donations

May brought some wonderful contributions. Throughout the month, we received donations of clothing, shoes, nursing covers, and a Moses basket, all of which help keep our shelves full and our prices accessible for families.

A particularly special donation came from HSBC, which included children’s sunglasses, bandanas, baby bath items, a tops-and-tails set, and a baby car seat. Donations like this make a genuine difference to the variety and quality of what we can offer.

Every Donation Counts

In April alone, 248 kilos of clothing were kept out of landfills through Thrifty Baby. Every bag dropped off, every item sorted and priced, every second-hand find that goes home with a new family – it all adds up to something bigger than a shop.

A Thoughtful Visit

We were also delighted to welcome Ekaterina, who kindly passed on copies of the Women Start World magazine for the shop – a thoughtful contribution that supports awareness of initiatives for women and gives our visitors something inspiring to browse.

Looking Ahead

May was a month that had it all – record growth, meaningful events, generous community support, and new connections. We’re carrying that momentum into June and beyond, and we couldn’t do it without every person who shops with us, donates to us, or simply walks through our doors.

Meet Our Hub Co-Ordinator, Rachel

Team - Rachel

If you’ve visited the Hub recently, there’s a good chance you’ve already met Rachel – and if you have, you’ll know exactly why we’re so glad she’s part of our team.

Rachel is our Hub Co-Ordinator, and from the moment she joined the Women for Women Foundation, she brought with her something that can’t really be taught: a genuine, wholehearted belief that supporting women means truly showing up for them. Seeing them, hearing them, reminding them of their worth, and celebrating every win, no matter how small.

As a mum herself, Rachel knows firsthand how relentless life can feel when you’re juggling family, work, and everything in between. She doesn’t just understand it in theory; she lives it. And that lived experience is exactly what makes her so brilliant at what she does. When women walk through our doors, Rachel makes them feel it.

The woman who inspires her most is her mum. A woman of grace, resilience, and endless love who shaped Rachel into the person she is today. We love that more than we can say.

And the way to her heart? A beautiful pasta dish, a glass of wine, and good company. Rachel is a self-confessed foodie who believes food is about so much more than eating – it’s about connection, memories, and the small pleasures that make life worth savouring. Honestly, same.

We are so glad you found your way to us, Rachel. The Hub is brighter for having you in it.

Sofia's Story: Courage and Hope

WFW - Sofia's Story

Behind every request for help is a person fighting a battle most of us never see.

Sofia made one of the hardest decisions a mother can make – leaving everything familiar behind in pursuit of a better future, not for herself alone, but for her child. That kind of love, the kind that moves mountains and crosses borders, is at the heart of this story.

She arrived in Malta facing financial hardship, uncertainty, and the enormous challenge of rebuilding her life far from home. The road was steep. The obstacles were real. But Sofia never stopped moving forward.

With the support of the Women for Women Foundation, she is now taking important steps towards independence. Through a personal loan for essential Skills Pass documentation, assistance with healthcare insurance, and support with the medical requirements needed for her work permit, she is moving closer to a stable and brighter future, one hard-won step at a time.

Her journey is still unfolding. But it is already a testament to what resilience, determination, and courage can achieve when compassion and community stand beside them.

Sofia’s story is not unique. It is one of many. Every day, women like her walk through our doors carrying hope in one hand and hardship in the other, and every day, we are reminded of why this work matters.

Sometimes, all someone needs is a helping hand to turn hope into opportunity.

If Sofia’s story moved you, please consider supporting the Women for Women Foundation. Every contribution helps us stand beside women who are doing the bravest thing they know how – choosing a better life.

Your Support Changes Lives

WFW - How to Help

Everything you read about in this newsletter – the Morning Sisters Circle, the Storytelling Time events, the support we provide to women and families in crisis – is made possible by people like you.

There are two powerful ways to get involved:

Make a Donation

Every contribution, no matter the size, goes directly towards supporting women and children who need it most. Whether you want to make a one-off gift, become a monthly supporter, or do something truly special like dedicating a donation in honour of someone you love, there’s an option that works for you.

You can also support a family directly by helping lone mothers and children in crisis access food, therapy, emotional support, and much more.

Prefer to keep it simple? You can also donate via SMS, BOV Mobile Pay, Revolut, bank transfer, or cheque.

Volunteer with Us

If you’d like to give your time rather than, or as well as, your money, we’d love to have you. Our volunteers are the heartbeat of what we do, showing up in big and small ways that make a real difference to the women and families we support.
