Dr. Carla Camilleri is a Maltese lawyer specialising in European Law and she is Deputy Director at aditus foundation, a voluntary & non-profit organisation established with a mission to monitor, act and report on access to fundamental human rights in Malta. She was engaged as a casual lecturer at the University of Malta in the European & Comparative Law Department and lectured LLM students in the EU Area of Freedom, Security and Justice Law. She currently lectures on the Legal Framework on Migration for Cultural Mediators for the Diploma in Education for Cultural Mediation within the Faculty of Education and gives guest lectures on EU immigration policy for the Department of Policy, Politics and Governance within the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy.  

In her work at aditus foundation, Carla carries out advocacy work in the field of migration, rule of law, access to justice and governance issues and sexual and reproductive health and rights. She is also one of the legal experts in the FRANET team for Malta. She is currently a member of the pool of experts set up by the European Commission to be part of the EU legal migration practitioners network. 

In 2018, Carla authored the Compendium of Asylum Jurisprudence, Law and Policy – A Collection of Maltese Asylum Case-Law and Access to Legal Assistance in Malta: Mapping the Availability of Legal Assistance for the Protection of Fundamental Rights in Malta. Furthermore in the course of her work, she has published a number of reports which include: A Way Forward for a National Integration Policy in Malta – A Report on National Integration Policies in Malta and she acted as research assistant on the Malta Gay Rights Movement’s Position Paper on Marriage Equality – Advocating the Best Options of Legislating for Same Sex Couples & Families in Malta. Carla has also published a number of academic articles which include An Indictment of Malta’s Defective Asylum System that Hinders Human Rights Protection: Case of A.D. v Malta, d-Dritt Volume XXXIV ed., 2024, Progress Press;  An indictment of Malta’s defective asylum system that hinders human-rights protection: Case of A.D. v. In addition, Carla also provides information, advice and legal services to a number of clients in aditus’ Pro Bono Unit in various sectors, which include migration and asylum, citizenship, LGBTIQ+ rights with a focus on transgender children and anti-discrimination.

Erica Micallef Filletti is a criminologist driven by a grounded commitment to honesty, compassion, and confronting inequity to those who are marginalised and most at risk through proactive deterrents to criminality and victimisation. 

Her hands-on experience, including working directly with offenders serving their prison sentences, continues to strengthen her belief in prevention, accountably, dignity, and restorative practices. 

She co-founded IVY – Interrupting Violence towards Youth in 2021 addressing domestic and intimate partner violence affecting youth and currently also works as a researcher curating legal standards and regulations for a vast range of social services and NGOs across Malta and Gozo. She also contributes to an EU prison reform project whilst mentors, trains, and educates on offender management, restorative justice, victimology, and domestic violence both locally and overseas.
